Waste heat in industrial processes comes in many different forms, where BPHE’s efficiently can extract energy from streams such as compressed air, water, thermal oil and steam and convert a decent share to useful electricity within an ORC system.
ORC is named for its use of an organic molecular fluid instead of the traditional water/steam. Its liquid-vapor phase change, i.e. its boiling point, occurs at a lower temperature than when water turns into steam, which allows the Rankine cycle to provide heat recovery from lower temperature sources. Different organic fluids are used to optimize the operation to different heat sources such as biomass boilers, industrial waste heat, geothermal heat and concentrated solar power.
